When you want to learn something new or be entertained, there’s nothing quite like sticking on a podcast and having it on in the background while you’re doing another activity. If that activity happens to be drinking rum then a great podcast to pair with the experience is Rumcast.

Hosted by rum evangelists Will Hoekenga and John Gulla, Rumcast is a wonderful source of information for novices and connoisseurs alike.

Talking to the people who’re shaping the rum world

Rumcast puts the spotlight on the folks who’re leading the rum revolution, such as the bubbly president of Privateer Rum, Maggie Campbell and legendary distiller Richard Seale of Foursquare Distillery.

As someone who’s relatively new to the rum world, I found these episodes to be very informative and gave me a better understanding of where the magic’s happening in the industry. Campbell and Seale come from different walks of life, but they’re connected by their passion for rum and take pleasure in introducing it to people all over the world.

Another episode worth listening to is with the founder of the Holmes Cay brand, Eric Kaye and what gets him excited about sourcing top-quality rums. Kaye is a leading figure in the growing American rum market, tying into an important theme on Rumcast.

Education and Entertainment

Rumcast offers good insight into what’s happening in the American rum industry and an interesting fact is that co-host Will Hoekenga runs a newsletter called American Rum Report. But the content isn’t confined to the US, as the podcast will feature rum news from every corner of the globe.

Hoekenga and Gulla are both extremely passionate about their subject matter and it comes through in every episode. Whether it’s recommending a bottle to try or challenging their guests to a quick-fire round of drinking questions, the duo make the podcast educational and entertaining.
